Nitrous Oxide AKA Laughing Gas

Nitrous Oxide has successfully been used in dentistry since 1865 for pain relief and to help calm anxious dental patients. When administered by a highly trained doctor, like Dr. Lovelace, nitrous Oxide is safe and effective. The dentist distributes the gas through a facemask and can precisely control the amount the patient receives. The gas is tasteless and odorless, and the effects wear off within thirty minutes after use, so you can resume activities like driving right after your appointment. Many patients find that using Nitrous Oxide makes their dental experience smooth and easy.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is an option for patients with significant dental anxiety who would benefit from medication to relax them before the dental appointment. Typically, the dentist will prescribe medication in pill form, such as Valium or Xanax, with specific directions for the timing of when to take it before your visit for dental work. These medications work in the area of the brain that controls fear and anxiety, producing a calm and relaxed state for the patient that allows the dentist to proceed with any necessary treatment with the patient completely comfortable. When using oral sedation, you will require a ride to and from your appointment as the medication will remain in your system for up to eight hours; please plan accordingly.
